Pref. tri- + Gr. a family, class. So called in allusion to its containing three phosphates.

(Min.) A mineral of a grayish-green or bluish color, consisting of the phosphates of iron, manganese, and lithia. ✍ A salmon-colored or clove-brown variety containing but little iron is known as lithiophilite.
