Sp., a snorer, fr. roncar to snore. So called in allusion to the grunting noise made by them on being taken from the water.

(Zoöl.) Any one of several species of California sciænoid food fishes, especially Roncador Stearnsi, which is an excellent market fish, and the red roncador (Corvina, ∨ Johnius, saturna).
